Firearms must be unloaded and locked in a hard-sided container.Passengers on domestic flights can add hunting gear to their baggage online, through an agent or at the airport before checking in to their flight. Passengers on international flights must contact Icelandair at least 48 hours prior to departure to add the make and model of their hunting gear to their booking, as well as the amount of ammunition they want to check in.The passenger must declare the fishing gear in the RED gate, past the baggage area, to the custom officers. Keflavik Airport takes care of the disinfection upon arrival in Iceland. If a certificate cannot be obtained, the fishing equipment must be handed to customs officers upon entering the country for immediate disinfection at owner’s expense. If the rod is clearly new, unused and in original packing, there is no need for disinfection. Fishing equipment should be disinfected by a veterinarian from the country of embarkation and a certificate of disinfection must be presented when transporting the equipment to Iceland. As a preventative measure against spreading infectious diseases of freshwater fishes to Iceland from other countries, it is prohibited by law to use fishing equipment, including waders and rubber boots, which have been used while angling abroad, unless such equipment has been disinfected according to valid rules (immersion for 10 minutes in a 2% formaldehyde solution).
